| Wordpress: Work In Progress |
[Nov. 11th, 2008|09:41 am] |
It seems I couldn't get LJ to export my journals. So I guess I'll be starting anew.
Am now looking for a suitable theme for the new blogsite. :D There are loads of cool ones, I just don't know which one to pick. I want one with a customizable header. It's a good thing Smashing Magazine has listed 100 excellent themes for Wordpress. XD |

| Wordpress |
[Nov. 11th, 2008|08:09 am] |
It's settled, then. After thinking for a few minutes, I've registered myself on Wordpress.
Why Wordpress?
Well, they have cool themes for layouts. Much, much cooler than the ones for LJ or Blogger or Blogspot or whatever. Plus, I can carry over my posts from LJ to my new blog.
Why not Blogger or Blogspot, as mentioned before?
Well, it really is simple. Most of my friends are on Blogger/Blogspot. Few are not. I guess I just wanna stand out from the crowd. Like a sore thumb.
Currently waiting for my activation e-mail. Once everything's settled, I'll let you guys know here. :) |

| Myspace Profile 2.0 |
[Nov. 11th, 2008|07:40 am] |
I'm really liking the new look. Now all we need to do is wait for some custom 3rd-party layouts for the new system. Not that I change layouts, anyways. XD
Speaking of layouts, I went searching for custom LJ layouts earlier. I found one that I really like, but installing it is such a hassle. I don't know why but my LJ is a little different than what the layout creator is using, so the installation instruction given is pretty much useless.
I'm thinking of migrating to a new blogsite. Blogger or Blogspot, maybe. Just because they have really cool custom layouts. Plus, I could use that Google thingy and see how many visitors I'm getting, and from where, too.
I'll make up my mind later. Maybe I'll setup a new blog once I've reached a certain amount of posts here. Heck, I've no idea how much I've posted since I started this blog. I'm guessing... 292. Yeap.
Well, that means I might start a new blog once I've reached 300. Holy, that's only 8 posts left.
Or should I wait till next year? :| |

[Nov. 10th, 2008|07:20 pm] |
So here I am, back in Cyberjaya. I came back yesterday with all of my stuffs, actually, but turns out our electricity got cut off. It was a month's long hols anyway, so the bills are left idling in the mailbox. My dad helped pay for the electricity this morning, and the power came back just a few minutes ago. Boredom no more~ XD
Unfortunately, we've no water. XDD
So I've to go and bottle up some for bathing purposes.
Nii the resident Siamese cat is no where to be found. If you see her wandering around Cyberia, please do let me know. :(
I can't get enough of Katy Perry. :x |

I'm moving back to Cyberjaya later today. Be packing stuffs once the Sun's up. Lots of things that needs to be done. Lots of thinking, as well. Can't wait to get my paws on my favourite cat.
Heck, with blogposts this short, I should be on Twitter. XD |

| Well, I'll Be Damned |
[Nov. 5th, 2008|12:08 am] |
Was waiting for the songs on The Fridays' myspace profile to load, when I saw a review by one Joshua Chay, a blogger who attended Operation Just Cause's Battle of the Bands late last year. So I googled him, wanting to have a look at his blog, thinking he prolly had some photos of the event, and I just wanted to see what they're like. As I browsing through, I caught a familiar sight in one of the pics.
That green dude back there seemed very, very familiar. :D Yeah, back then I was rocking caps and wasn't rocking skinnys.
For some of my photos of the event, by all means, please click here. Eventho my pics aren't as spectacular as his, I got better shots since I was upfront. Well, for The Fridays, anyways. XD |

| The Wknd |
[Nov. 3rd, 2008|06:26 pm] |
So I logged in to Myspace earlier, and the band Deepset posted something on the bulletin board. Something about videos on a site called The Wknd. So I went to have a look. And I feel in love. With the site.
The idea is hardly original, but no one had ever attempted to do quality live recordings of bands performing. This is much like those AOL Sessions, except they're set in some local studio. So far, they've only 10 sessions, featuring a local indie artist or band each, but I'm sure that number will increase quickly. I'm really interested in seeing who'll be jumping in for the next session. Heck, I'm gonna try and suggest my friends to try writing to them and see what happens. :D |

| Guitar Build Updates |
[Nov. 1st, 2008|07:32 pm] |
 I couldn't resist a quick mockup. XD
A closer look at the pickguard mockup.
I'm thinking of just doing it ala Jazzmaster, no chrome plates. I want a red pickguard, for some reason. XD Iono, but I find it does look rather good with a red guard. A black guard on an unfinished body looks rather common.
I'll be doing another guard mockup now that I've got a body to work with. This one will be with 3 pickup holes, a space for the Strat switch, jack socket and 3 pots.
Since the neck is on, obviously the neck pocket is done. :D

The problem is, if I were to do the screw holes now, it would totally be off. Here's how the neck plate looks like, with the current neck pocket:

A side view, where you can clearly see the plate overhanging:

I figured I should lengthen the neck pocket to solve this. This also means moving the bridge further behind, hence the need for a new guard mockup. :) If I'm not going anywhere tomorrow, we'll work this one out.
The bridge is a top-loader, just in case you'er curious, like the ones on Squier 51's.
Apparently, Paramore's second track for the Twilight soundtrack was leaked. Try searching for it on Youtube. The song's ok at the beginning, but then it just turned out to be a mediocre one. Lyrics are kinda weird. XD Anyways, it'll grow on you, I'm sure. |

| The Lego Minifig Timeline |
[Oct. 31st, 2008|11:22 am] |
Was reading through the latest articles on Gizmodo when I came across this:
 The Lego Minifig Timeline.
Every single minifig released since 1978 up till now. Of course, my favourite has to be the Star Wars minifigs. :">
If you're into more Lego goodness, head on over to The Brothers' Brick where you can view custom Lego creations from fans around the world. |

| Adobe Photoshop CS4 |
[Oct. 30th, 2008|10:17 pm] |
Got my hands on the new Photoshop CS4 today. Whoopee.
 Simple, yet functional splash screen.
 The default layout.
The CS4 is considerably faster than the CS3 on my pc. Still, I'm not ditching the CS3 just yet. I'm not risking it should anything goes wrong with the CS4, since it's new and whatnot.
The new Keane album, Perfect Symmetry is awesome. A very healthy dose of 80's synthpop, with a dash of U2. That's how I'd put it. They've got a lot more sound texture going on, adding a fourth member to their live shows. Tom is even rocking Telecasters! They now look like a regular rock outfit, but most of the time they're still Keane. Best album from the lot, yet.
It turns out Bloc Party had recorded a live session earlier this year, where they played all the tracks off their new album, Intimacy. Kinda like that Scottish Mist thingy Radiohead did. Yeap. Looking forward to it. :D
Cleaned up my hard drive for some space. Got rid of movies that I don't care about, and some live band performances I no longer watch. It sure helps.
Oh, and the whole of today was plagued with boredom. There were no electricity in the Setapak area, due to one of the transformers catching fire. Here's how I spent my day today, without electricity: - Woke up - Bathed - Sighed after finding out there's no goddamn electricity - Had breakfast - Walked about the house - Walked in figures of 8 - Walked in figures of 8 while clapping hands - Walked around the coffee table in the living room - Walked around the dining table - Had lunch - Prayed - Walked some more - Walked up and down the stairs - Got bored of walking - Rode my bicycle in the house (yes, you read that right) - Played Sudoku on my phone till the battery dried up - Went out to fetch my sister home from school - Bought McD~ - Got home - Bored - Talked crap with siblings - Lied down trying to fall asleep but failed epicly - Woke up when every single electronic devices in the house flickerd to life (well, not really).
So I've been sitting crossed-legs in front of the pc ever since the power came back on, and I've got backaches. Not to mention, my bum hurts. And I ain't got that much of a bum.
Ok, too much info~ XD
What the hell's wrong with YM these days? It kept on logging in and out like it's in some kind of limbo. Sheesh. |

| There's Always Something Getting You Down |
[Oct. 29th, 2008|06:49 pm] |
It definitely hurts, playing the guitar after months of idleness. I don't know whether it's because of the very light strings I just bought, or whether it's because of the fast song I played. It could be both.
I guess I should try on heavier strings, and play slower songs. Haih~
The Hush Sound's latest album, Goodbye Blues is total ear-candy~ I'm not done listening to it, tho. There's just too much goodness in there. 8->
Anyways, I found a dude who does custom pickguards! He lives in Wangsa Melawati, and his work is pretty impressive, considering how cheap he's charging. He also does faux-chrome plates for Jags. :> I'll give him a call sooner or later. |

| Guitar Build: Revisited! |
[Oct. 28th, 2008|11:22 am] |
So yesterday, me and my dad worked on my guitar build after neglecting it for so long.
Tadaa! Now the electronic cavity is routed! Yes!
A closer shot of the cavity.
As you can see, the base is very uneven, due to the unpredictable nature of the router. And this is with my Dad routing. If I were to route the cavity, it'll be total disaster, either way. So major props to Dad. XD
No worries tho, since the base will be covered with some aluminum sheets for shielding. I'm gonna smooth the sides with a dremel later on, so all's good.
We faced a couple of problems, tho. The first is regarding the position of the jack socket. Since this guitar is thinner than the average guitar, my Dad suggested we re-use the jack plate from the Strat. I don't really like the odd plate sticking out like a sore thumb, design-wise, so I reasoned about doing an upright jack socket, like a normal Jazz/Jag guitar.
This is with the tip of the jack touching the base.
I think the upright socket could work out, since there'll be the added thickness of the pickguard with the socket. We'll see.
Speaking of pickguards, that brings us to our second problem. I don't think we have the proper tools to do custom pickguards at home, so it seems like I'm going to have to look for someone who can. If anyone know's anyone in the Klang Valley who could do quality custom pickguards, please let me know. :(
We also routed a little portion of the body for the neck pocket, but no pics, I'm afraid. It's not fully routed, just a little smaller than it's supposed to be, for safety reasons. XD
I guess I'll do a mock-up of the pickguard later tonite. I also want a chrome control plate, but for 3 knobs + 1 jack socket. Not sure if I can get one of those locally. Also, I'm thinking of ditching the 5-way Strat switch for 3 on-on switches, like the ones on a Jag. Should be awesome once it's done. :>
Listened to Forgive Durden's new album yesterday. It's a musical called Razia's Shadow, and is divided into two stories: the first is a story of creationism and destruction of the world, while the second half is a classic love story between a princess and a commoner. It's kinda like a soundtrack to a Disney movie (think Alice in Wonderland), but with a certain amount of emo-added twist. I actually enjoyed listening to it, especially the second half. Greta Salpeter's voice is so soothing... 8->
Cheers. :D |

| Bloc Party On Jools |
[Oct. 24th, 2008|05:41 pm] |
If you've been wondering how some of the new material are when performed live, please head on here to see their latest performance on Later with Jools.... I haven't watched it yet, just letting it stream for awhile. :D
In the mean time... UPDATES!
Since Simon has been pressing for an update, I'll just type something in here for people to read during their free time. XD
So, I've been spending the hols with much sleep. I've also been playing me old Need For Speed: Prostreet, in anticipation of the new release, Undercover, which will be out in a few weeks. It feels good to be unleashing the inner speed demon. XD
Also, I've finally finished reading the Rama series by the late Sir Arthur C. Clarke. The final book was awesome, but it was somewhat of a letdown, since I don't think he (or Gentry Lee, who co-wrote 3/4 of the series) actually elaborated much on the origins of the Ramans. All that I know is that, the Ramans are intelligent beings from another dimension, a parallel universe, if you will, that has been existing since before the Big Bang had occurred in our dimension. The reason why they're here a few minutes after the Big Bang is to fully study, catalogue and manipulate, in some manner, intelligent life. Those lifeforms which managed to survive up past the space-faring stage are then taken into one of the many observatories in space, called nodes for more detailed studies. An exciting thought in itself, but I wanted more. Ah well.
I've still got a whole lot of his books to read. I might start on another one tomorrow, titled The Distant Songs of Earth. Sure sounds like an interesting read. :D
Oooh, which reminds me! The Tales of Beedle The Bard will be out on the 9th of November, at most MPH branches. Yayness! Sure, no Harry in it (there's Dumbledore, though) but I just like how Mrs. Rowling writes her books. :D
Apart from racing and reading, I'm also keeping up with some of my favourite tv shows. Namely Heroes: Season 3, Pushing Daisies: Season 2, Merlin, and Clone Wars. I know, I know, most people don't even watch those.
I'm up to something else, as well, but I can't say what it is. I don't want to jinx it. XD
Ayte, so some of the new material don't work out quite well in a live setting. Obviously the hip-hip influenced tracks sounded awkward, seeing this is Bloc Party we're talking about. Also, the live mix sounded bland compared to the rich and full mix on the record. A letdown, somewhat, but ok otherwise. Kele's rushing through the lyrics on Ares was not it, for me. :(
6:30... time to go and have a bath. XD |
